Info & Tips

Building regulations - As you may know building regulations cover all aspects of construction in your home. They are
constantly being updated to incorporate new building techniques, materials and to meet health and safety regulations.
Part P of the building regulations applies to electrical installations but many more areas of the building regulations have to
be considered during an electrical installation.

Certificate for completed works - Not all work requires building control to be notified. Work that needs building control to be notified can be broken down to major and minor works, they are in turn issued major or minor certificates.

Domestic electrical specialist - Simply put we only work in people's homes, big or small it makes no difference. The
benefit is that we understand the importance of working as discretely as possible, keeping the work neat and tidy, causing as little disruption to your life.

MCB - Miniature circuit breaker, this is used in your consumer unit instead of a fuse. The most noticeable difference is that
they are resettable, so if they 'trip' you can just switch them back on rather than replacing them.

NICEIC - They are the UK electrical contracting industry's independent voluntary body. They offer leading certification services, Building Regulations Schemes, products and support to electrical contractors.
You can find us on the NICEIC website, to search for us click here for more information on the benefits of an NICEIC
electrician click here.

Public Liability Insurance - This covers liability exposures for individuals and business owners. It will also cover them if
they damage your property while on business. The cover should include any legal fees and expenses which result from any claim by you. Homeowners looking to employ trades people to undertake work on their homes should ensure the companies selected have suitable cover - minimum recommendation is £2 million.

RCD - Residual current device is a safety device that switches off the electricity automatically when it detects a fault, providing protection against electric shock. They come in many forms, in your consumer unit, in plug sockets, built into extension
cords or as a standalone unit. It works much faster than a MCB so if you don't have one it's defiantly worth investing in.

Wiring regulations - IEE Wiring Regulations 17th Edition. This is the latest version of the wiring regulations, it was published on the 1st Jan 2008, all electricians should now work to these standards. This does not mean that your electrical system is dangerous just because it was installed before 2008.
